New City Sightseeing bus tours in Santa Cruz
Tenerife’s newest City Sightseeing bus tour launched in the capital city of Santa Cruz in June 2011. It offers a total of 13 stop-off points throughout the capital and enables holidaymakers to visit key areas of interest, including the striking Tenerife Auditorium, Plaza de España, the city’s local market, Garcia Sanabria Park, various museums and shopping areas, and the city bus station to catch connecting buses to locations outside of the city, such as Las Teresitas beach. The bus offers two decks, with 360⁰ views available from the four-metre-high upper deck, and an audio system featuring eight different languages. The tour is available all year round and departs every 25 minutes, with a full tour lasting one hour and 15 minutes. One day adult tickets start from €9.99.
Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey completes major refurbishment
One of Tenerife’s landmark hotels, Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey, will re-open its doors from 11th
November 2011 following a €25 million refurbishment. Re-designed with luxury in mind, the recently renovated property now features fewer and more spacious guests rooms (261 in total), as well as a brand new spa and gourmet à la carte restaurant, Los Menceyes, which will be open to the public. Additional significant improvements have been made to the swimming pool, lounge rooms, lobby area and gardens which are recognised as Heritage of Cultural Interest in Spain. The hotel will join The Grand Collection cateogory, which brings together all Iberostar deluxe Hotels, and will offer a wonderful base from which to explore Santa Cruz.
New Tourist Information Office at Tenerife South Airport
A new Tourist Information Office was launched at Tenerife South Airport in July 2011. The office can be found just outisde the airport’s arrival terminal and is ideally located for arriving visitors who want to find out more about the island before they leave the airport. The office is equipped with four 42-inch screens showcasing videos of Tenerife’s heritage, culture, gastronomy, nature, seas and world-famous Teide National Park. The office will be open every weekday from 09:00-19:00 during July to September and then from 09:00-21:00 during October to June. On weekends, the office will open at 09:00 and close at 17:00.
Two H10 hotels revamped in Tenerife
International hotel group, H10, has revamped two properties in Tenerife. H10 Conquistado and H10 Big Sur, formerly known as H10 Oasis Moreque, now boast a series of new facilities and contemporary decor throughout. Located in Playa de las Americas, H10 Conquistador has opened new à la carte Italian restaurant, La Vita e Bella; a tea and coffee shop; and a Teenclub aimed at young guests. It has also completely tranformed its public areas and 75% of its rooms. Additionally, H10 Big Sur, an adult-only hotel in Los Cristianos, has launched a number of new facilities including the Cactus Bar, a beauty centre and stylish chill-out area located on the 8th floor and affording spectacular sea views. Other improvements have been made to the rooms, Blue Bay restaurant and outdoor swimming areas.
Océano Vitality recognised as Spain’s first “Medical Wellness” hotel

New footpath launched in Anaga Rural Park
A new accessible footpath has been developed in Llano de los Loros, located in the lush region of Anaga Rural Park. The new “Sendero de los Sentidos” footpath has been designed to provide accessibility to one of the island’s most stunning natural areas, with the support of wooden structural elements and informative interpretation panels. It has a total length of 1.5 km and features three tracks with the first being accessible to people with reduced mobility or visual/hearing impairments. Suited to adults and children, the second two tracks offer an exciting experience with bridges, viewpoints and zip lines.
Tenerife develops social media campaign in UK
In 2011, the Tenerife Tourism Corporation developed a social media campaign to attract even more UK holidaymakers. New channels have been created on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to interact with UK residents and introduce Tenerife’s beauty, culture and attractions to potential first-time and returning travellers to the “Island of Contrasts”.
New luxury villa complex opens on west coast
Abama Tagor’ has become the newest luxury villa complex to open on the island of Tenerife, following its launch in March 2011. New marine research centre in El Puertito de Adeje
A new marine research and investigation centre is set to launch in El Puertito de Adeje in southern Tenerife. The marine education centre will focus on scientific research, environmental values, conservation and ecosystem regeneration. The project is currently researching all fauna and flora found in depths of between six and ten metres, whilst highlighting the destruction caused to the flora by the lime urchin. El Puertito’s important population of green turtles, octopuses, sea horses and other species will also be observed in order to educate visitors and ultimately help to protect Tenerife’s seabed and marine life.
Tenerife introduces social media monitoring system
The Tenerife Tourism Corporation has introduced “Tenerife Escucha” (translated as “Tenerife Listen”), a new social media monitoring system to ensure the destination meets with customer demand and identifies new trends in the market. The global system will record a real-time diary of everything that is said about Tenerife on key Internet sites. This action will allow the Tenerife Tourism Corporation to respond to the demands and questions posed by potential tourists, whilst also allowing them to address user issues and make improvements to the destination.
Spain’s first “Tourist Innovation Factory” to open in Tenerife
The island of Tenerife will launch the first “Tourist Innovation Factory” in Spain, which will promote innovation in the hotel, leisure and commerce sectors.
Tenerife becomes the first destination to partner with Travelife
The Tenerife Tourism Corporation has further strengthened its commitment to sustainable tourism by becoming the first destination to partner with Travelife. To date, the island has 27 properties subscribed to the Travelife Sustainability Scheme, which is a certification scheme for hotels and apartments to rate sustainability achievements. This impressive figure is more than any other island destination. Travelife is the international certification scheme of choice for the travel industry and is based on European and International standards.
Five new volcanic routes to explore
Tenerife will launch five new volcanic routes of varying difficulty for self-guided hikers visiting the island. The new routes will enable visitors of all ages to enjoy Tenerife’s incredible volcanic landscape.
